Fine commercial. Some people talk about the integrity of the scene being compromised, but last time I checked, the original film was still around in all it's unedited glory.Besides, this ad gives exposure to an entertainer that no one short of one or two "film purist"would have known about much less shared with the younger generation.because of this ad maybe someone will rent or buy this guys movies.

Yup, you're right.Just hate the selling part. It's like when they used old Fred Astaire footage to sell a Dirt Devil vaccum cleaner. His widow was given a lot of grief for selling the rights to his image, particularly from his children (most of them older than his wife).

or you can just see it as a tribute to gene kellys outstanding perfomance, and as proof that he is still regarded as a master of a performer nowadays

You are right. The original is a masterpiece that should have never been tampered with. This has nothing to do with whether or not Kelly would have appreciated this type of dance, it's about respecting the integrity of the original dance. It's like painting over a Picasso so it matches the colour of your furniture. Worse, actually, because this was used to sell a car.If the choices are between being self-righteous or having no regard for artistic integrity, I'll take the former. |
