FOR MORE OF TOXIC WEST VIRGINIA VISIT: http://www.vbs.tv/player.php?b... Danluck is a New York artist, director, and all-around amazing person who has a killer collection of power tools. VBS bumped into her a few months ago and discovered that she has been working on a film in West Virginia, a sort of impressionistic account of the current environmental catastrophe in the Appalachian Mountains. Mining companies are destroying entire mountains in order to get at the coal inside them. Quickly and efficiently, the oldest mountain range in the world is being systematically obliterated. We sent Meredith and VBS correspondent Derrick Beckles to the hills and hollers of West Virginia to show us what the end of the world looks like.

Comb your hair tree hugger then maybe ill listen. So you would rather kill miners underground than to do it safely. By mountain top removal.

It's called wind power and solar power. Wiping mountains off the face of the earth is sick. At the world convention for the environment the only country to not agree with the new methods and laws on protecting the environment was the U.S. And I believe it was the Brazilians that spoke up and said "GET ON BOARD OR GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!!" Cheers to the Brazilians!!!! OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE MATTER...LOL You're wiping out mountains... HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

But don't allow these tree huggers who do not know thing one about mining coal, tell you that it is causing Global Warming blah blah blah.sorry my message is all chopped up... Only allows me to have 500 characters and I can't say enough about how much these tree huggers exploit facts and are so out of touch with the reality of the matter!!!!

Coal Mines are a way of life in WV that is how it has been and now that we have found a way to get more of the coal out of the mountains without endangering peoples lives as much so as underground. You are acting like we are destroying the state when that is part of the states economy!!!If it wasn't for the coal industry you wouldn't have lights in your house nor would you be able to exploit this retarded video on youtube due to no ELECTRICITY from the coal.

You guys need to learn all your facts, For one Coal Mines supply a majority of the jobs in West Virginia! Not only the coal mines themselves but the prep plants and so on and so forth. Yes, you are right when you said its not like all the jobs in WV are coal mine jobs, but where would the money come from to spend at the wal-mart, the mall, the Restaurant, or the car lot that the are suppling the other jobs???

Mountains/valley systems are important for streams/water systems. Even though trees will grow on the land again, the depressions and mountains caused by glaciers during the ice age wont just spring up again. He past old mines created using the old system of mining.
